Municipality of Oprtalj – Portole
Oprtalj (ital. Portole) is a municipality located in the northern part of the County of Istria in Croatia. The large area of the municipality (60,95 km²), although relatively sparsely populated, consists of 16 settlements. Some parts of the municipality are on the list for the Natura 2000 network like the Forest of Motovun, the area includes a mineral spring (The Istrian thermal resort), the teritory is rich in sacral heritage (15 churches, 15.-20. century) and worldwide famous for the truffles. The Municipality of Oprtalj – Portole is spatially located on half of the revitalised railway line Parenzana (now used as a cycling trail) and is the most beautiful part of the Parenzana road with three viaducts, one tunnel and two bridges.
